Following a fight with police, former MLAs Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Sanjay Talwar were detained, along with Ludhiana Congress MP Ravneet Bittu.
Following a minor altercation outside the police commissioner's office, important Congress figures, including Lok Sabha MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, were taken into custody by the Ludhiana police.
According to the police chief, these leaders were taken to court and will spend a total of 14 days behind bars. A complaint against the Congress leaders and their followers for causing trouble outside the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation building a month ago prompted them to congregate outside the police commissioner's office to turn themselves in.
Bittu told the media prior to his detention that if they were accused with sealing the MC office, the Chief Minister ought to be held accountable for locking the Vidhan Sabha as well. He declared that due to the government's incapacity to properly handle matters, they will continue to seal offices they consider to be corrupt.
To prevent opposition members from departing, the Chief Minister had sealed the Assembly the day before. In a show of protest against the AAP government's incompetence and Ludhiana's corruption, Congress leaders and their allies had locked down the Municipal Corporation building.
Following their disturbance and altercation with law enforcement, they were accused of obstructing government employees' work and causing disorder.
Bittu declared that they would not back down from their legal case in defence of the people. He declared that since the current administration is more concerned with making money than with serving the people, more corrupt government offices would be sealed.
Following the arrests, there were disputes between Congress and AAP supporters; some claimed the arrests were unjust, while others claimed they were required to maintain order.
People are currently keeping an eye on the proceedings in court and how they may impact Punjabi politics. While their opponents claim they are attempting to improve governance, the leaders who have been arrested insist they will continue to combat corruption.
