Seven police officers were suspended by the Manipur administration on Sunday, the 15th of February, in response to the violent protests that broke out in Churachandpur district.
Due to security forces' attempts to quell the unrest, the protests reportedly resulted in the unfortunate deaths of two people and several injuries. The district police chief constable's suspension served as the impetus for the unrest.
Based on preliminary evidence, officers from several communities in Imphal and one from Churachandpur district were suspended in compliance with an order from the Home Department.
The administration acknowledged some inadequacies in the behaviour of government officials and stressed its close observation of attempts to bring about peace. Rumours propagated by anti-social elements stoked the unrest, which resulted in fatalities and destruction of government property.
Twelve vehicles, including trucks and buses, that were parked near the deputy commissioner's and superintendent of police's office complex were either set on fire or vandalised, according to reports. Remarkably, two of the wrecked cars had supplies for the district's camps.
The injunction claimed that the demonstrators disrespected the national flag in addition to targeting the deputy commissioner's official dwelling.
