Farmer's death | Burning of effigies, black flags atop cars and homes: Punjab expresses rage, criticises government

On Friday, a lot of people in Punjab were depressed and furious. On "Aakrosh Diwas," they went out into the streets dressed in black ribbons. Shubhkarman Singh, a young farmer, lost his life on February 21 during the Dilli Chalo protests at the Khanauri borders, which grieved them.

They draped black flags over their cars and homes as a sign of their sorrow.

This demonstration was planned by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). They wanted to express their support even if they are not a part of the larger Dilli Chalo demonstration.

"We have the right to ask for what's fair," someone stated. We will continue to speak out even if the government tries to silence us. We care about what's going on, even if we're not at the focal points of the protests."

Others spoke up and said things like "We're not going to give up." We'll not give up, no matter how hard they try to stop us."

By flying a black flag at his home, a writer and activist also joined. Young people from other areas also showed up to participate in the demonstration.

Concerns over the young farmer's death were widespread. They yelled anti-government slogans and set fire to the effigies of the leaders they despised.

Protests were held throughout Punjab. Trade unions even showed their support by joining in.

People from various groups joined forces to demonstrate in a city, calling for justice for the farmers who lost their lives. The family of the deceased farmer received compensation from the Punjab government, for which the SKM expressed gratitude, but they still demanded further action.

They insisted that the incident should be thoroughly investigated and that the guilty parties ought to face consequences. Additionally, they asked the government to pay attention to their requests and improve conditions for farmers.
